Michael Pizzi
Mayor

Michael Pizzi said his goals include passing a campaign finance reform ordinance to make sure special interest groups don’t have any type of influence on the town’s municipal elections.

He’s also pushing to overhaul the town’s procurement system to assure residents’ tax dollars are not being spent without competitive bidding for all professional contracts.

"We want to make sure that contractors are going to give us the most efficient services and at lowest costs," Pizzi said.

Pizzi said he plans to make efforts to improve the working atmosphere between councilmembers and the town’s staff, making sure all work together to make things better for area residents.

He also said he plans to continue improving the quality of life for area residents with his town-wide beautification initiative.

"On the west side of Miami Lakes, all of the walls should be painted one uniform color," Pizzi said. "The entire town will have landscaping and tot-lot improvements during this fiscal year. And we need to provide enhanced landscaping along N.W. 87 Avenue and Commerce Way.

"I want residents to see a noticeable difference in the environment."

Pizzi said he would like to see a recreational program for youths and a possible town recreational center.

The councilmember said enhanced code enforcement should be done uniformly throughout the town as part of modifying existing covenants into a new set of town codes.

However, he said it is important for the town to garner input from area residents before enacting any code enforcement provisions.

"The council should only enact code enforcement changes the residents want," Pizzi said.
