Richard Pulido
Vice Mayor

BIOGRAPHY
Councilman Richard Pulido is a native of New York City and moved to South Florida in 1991 to complete his Bachelor of Arts (Cum Laude) in History at St. Thomas University and his Master of Science in Education at Nova Southeastern University. Pulido’s professional experience has been as a local high school government teacher and as a University Professor, where he currently teaches at St. Thomas University, as well as a Residential Real Estate Sales Manager and Trainer. Councilman Pulido currently serves as a member of St. Thomas University’s Community Justice Council. He is married to his college sweetheart, Carol, and they have two lovely children Amanda and Jason.

Prior to being elected to the Miami Lakes Town Council in October, 2006 Pulido had been a long time community activist. He served as Chairman of the Town’s Education Advisory Board. During this time he created the Town’s Youth Internship Program in order to give our youth an opportunity to take an active role in their local government. He also established the KidsID Safety Cards. This potentially life saving program offers parents a pictured ID card with their child’s description i.e.: birth date, height, weight, eye and hair color, any identifiable markings and their thumb print. The information on the card is stored by the our local police. This program is offered free of charge to our residents and children attending our area schools. Councilman Pulido also served on the Miami-Dade County’s Citizen’s Transportation Advisory Committee working to improve transportation issues throughout Miami Dade County. Councilman Pulido served for several years as a member of the Miami Dade County Public Schools’ Attendance Boundary Committee working hard to improve overcrowding conditions in our public schools. Today, as a Miami Lakes Councilman he continues to work closely with school officials toward this mission of relieving Miami Lakes area public schools from what he refers to as “unacceptable overcrowded learning environments for our children”.

“I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve as a member of our Town Council. I am committed to safeguarding the things that make Miami Lakes a special place to call home. We must work together to make sure that we protect our living, working and playing oasis. Thank you to all of the hardworking people in our Town that make this possible. ~ Richard Pulido

KEY LEGISLATIVE INITIATIVES/ GOALS:
Maintaining a strong partnership with our area schools to assure that our children have the best possible learning opportunities.

Improving our Town Parks and Recreational facilities for our youth and elders by increasing the available programs and facilities.

Fiscal accountability to ensure the public’s hard earned dollars are always spent responsibly. Economic policies that strengthen our business community‘s vitality.

Strong supporter of our Town Code Enforcement, which mirrors many of our deed restrictions. “This is perhaps one of the most important things in protecting the value of our homes.” ~ Councilman Pulido

Continuation of the Town’s Environmental (”GREEN”) legislative initiatives that today makes Miami Lakes a national leader in local government’s efforts toward reducing Global Climate Change.

Proponent of providing our residents with the opportunity to take an active role in their local government, whether by participating in our wonderful Town Committees or by assuring that the residents always feel that their Town Government is accessible and responsive to their individual needs.

Sponsoring traffic calming measures and adding additional community Police resources as part of his commitment to work on solutions to relieve our community of it’s major traffic crisis and proactively address what many residents have shared with him to be a serious public safety problem (drivers speeding down our residential streets). “Public safety has and will always be my paramount priority…” ~ Councilman Pulido
