The Town of Miami Lakes Police Department is comprised of three separate units, each serving a unique function within the Town—these units are overseen by the Town Commander and Executive Officer:

 The Town Commander is responsible for the entire operation of the Town of Miami Lakes Police Section. The Town Commander is the link between the Miami-Dade Police Department, the Town of Miami Lakes government and the citizens within the communities of Miami Lakes.

 The Executive Officer is second in command to the Town Commander. This position is responsible for carrying out and ensuring that all aspects of laws and procedures of the police section are adhered too. The Executive Officer is responsible for assisting the Town Commander in supervising and guiding the sergeants to develop tactics to reduce crime, eliminate quality of life issues, and personnel concerns as they arise.
