Miami Lakes strives to be a friendly, peaceful and beautiful town whose residents and business leaders take pride in where they live, work and play. When it incorporated in December 2000, the Town of Miami Lakes became the 31st municipality in Miami-Dade County. Known as one of the youngest cities in Miami-Dade County, Miami Lakes is home to over 27,000 residents and over 1,700 businesses. The master plan began over 43 years ago, when the Graham family began development of what was their dairy farm land. Unlike many cities and towns created during the early 1960’s, the Grahams decided to create a master plan for the city that would allow for three decades of growth, construction, and changing market conditions. Their precise planning and development of the original 3,000 acres of land led to a vibrant and beautiful city with parks, tree-lined streets, and a hometown atmosphere. True to its name, there are 23 lakes nestled within neighborhoods in the Town. There are also numerous opportunities to enjoy the outdoors with numerous parks and tot lots situated within walking distance of every neighborhood. And, not to anyone’s surprise, one can still see cows grazing on some parcels, in true honor of the historical beginnings as a dairy farm. As the Town of Miami Lakes looks to the future, it will continue to strive for innovation while remaining true to its original founders’ vision of providing the highest quality of life for its residents and visitors.
