The Cultural Affairs Committee works to establish a cultural identity in the Town. The committee plans and coordinates activities that will further the development of art, music, theatre, and other recreational activities. 

The mission of the Town of Miami Lakes Cultural Affairs Committee is to provide and promote cultural activities within the Town of Miami Lakes for the benefit and education of its citizens and those in the surrounding communities.

MEETINGS
The Cultural Affairs Committee meets the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm at Miami Lakes Town Hall located at 6601 Main Street in Room 106.

Jazz up your weekend by attending the Town of Miami Lakes and its Cultural Affairs Committee Annual Jazz Concert in the Park!

  • Location: Miami Lakes Picnic Park West, 15151 NW 82nd Avenue
  • Type of Event: Free Entry

The free jazz concert will feature the renowned talent of the Jackson Bunn Group. Jackson Bunn was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He began learning songs on the piano from movies, television, and the radio at the age of six. He studied piano and viola through high school in the Chicago area. After many years in Chicago, his family moved to Miami where he recorded his original jazz project “The Jackson Bunn Group” and began playing at clubs and festivals throughout Florida. For the last 13 years, Bunn has been employed as a music teacher with Miami-Dade Public Schools. He and his wife, Ana, are long-time residents of Miami Lakes.

Be sure to bring your blankets, picnic baskets, friends, and family for an evening of relaxing music under the stars!

Women Hisotry Month

 

The Town of Miami Lakes and its Cultural Affairs Committee extend the opportunity to the community to nominate women in the categories listed below for the Women’s History Month Women of Distinction awards program.

Women who either live or work in the Town of Miami Lakes may be nominated in the following categories:

Arts: Woman who has contributed to the cultural life of the community through theatre, dance, music, art or literature.

Business: Professional woman in a position as owner, CEO or high-level manager of a business or industry.

Community and Civic Affairs: A leader, supervisor, administrator, manager or member who has contributed to the community.

Education: A woman educator, administrator or director of a public or private institution of learning who has been outstanding in the field.

Government: Woman who has made an outstanding contribution to the community through her work in or with local government.

Health Services: Individual who has made an outstanding contribution in the health services field.

Humanitarian: An outstanding woman who has contributed to the community. This individual may or may not be affiliated with a commercial, professional or non-profit agency or group.

Volunteer: A woman who has made an outstanding contribution in serving the needs of others.

 

Nomination Deadline: Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Click Here for the Nomination Form. The awards program and luncheon will take place on Saturday, March 3rd from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Roberto Alonso Community Center,16500 NW 87th Avenue.
