WINNERS ANNOUNCED OF THE 2017 MIAMI LAKES FUTURE LEADERS SCHOLARSHIP, PRESENTED BY THE GRAHAM COMPANIES

The Town of Miami Lakes and its Education Advisory Board are excited to announce the winners of the 2017 Miami Lakes Future Leaders Scholarship, presented by the Graham Companies. These leaders of tomorrow were commended for their accomplishments at the May’s Town Council meeting on Tuesday, May 2nd.

Two scholarships, in the amount of $1,000.00 each, were awarded to Melany Hernandez and Esteban Guio. Melany Hernandez, with a 5.077 GPA from School of Advanced Studies, will be attending Emory University. Ms. Hernandez hopes to become an Anesthesiologist. Esteban Guio, with a 5.168 GPA from Belen Jesuit Preparatory School, will be attending the University of Chicago. Mr. Guio hopes to become an attorney and run for a political office someday.

This year, many Miami Lakes resident high school seniors who demonstrated extraordinary dedication to academic achievement and community service applied. These students will be the leaders of tomorrow and we are pleased that our Town has such bright and engaging young people to lead us into the future. The Town of Miami Lakes and its Education Advisory Board wishes these students continued success throughout their college career and on.

IMAGINATION LIBRARY

Town of Miami Lakes residents can sign up for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a free children's reading program that mails a new book to your home from birth to five years old. To participate, simply fill out and send in a registration form. In about 8 to 10 weeks after your registration form has been approved, a new, carefully selected book will be mailed each month in your child's name directly to your home.

The key to proficiency in reading is to start early and begin reading to your child the day he/she is born, according to the Program. Additionally, the more words a child hears, the larger the child's vocabulary and the more likely he or she will be a proficient reader.

*Click on the link above. Fill out the registration form and mail it to: 6601 Main Street, Miami Lakes, FL 33014
