Miami Lakes, FL -At the October 3rd Town Council meeting, Councilmembers and Town Staff wore pink to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In addition, each night throughout October, Town Hall is illuminated in pink lighting and throughout the day our lobby lights glow a beautiful shade of pink.
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Mayor Manny Cid and Council Members highlighted a special non-profit organization in our town, The Women’s Breast & Heart Initiative. This non-profit is dedicated to teaching women about the importance of breast health and heart health; the two largest causes of death among women. This organization makes a tremendous impact on the community through its door to door outreach program, and by providing education, screenings, and referrals to underserved women.
The major impact of Breast Cancer is evident in its statistics. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. Additionally, Breast Cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women and the second leading cause of death among women, according to the Foundation.
Show your support by wearing pink throughout the month of October and be sure to share your photos using the official hashtag #iheartmiamilakes.
