Mrs. Mary Collins, a resident of Miami Lakes, was the luncheon’s keynote speaker. The luncheon took place on Saturday, March 3rd at the Robert Alonso Community Center, located at 16500 NW 87th Ave. Mary Collins, born July 5, 1932 in New York City, graduated from Stella Maris Academy and attended Dade Community College, and married in 1965 Major John Collins USMC.

2018 Town of Miami Lakes Women of Distinction Award Winners Announced
 
Miami Lakes, FL – The Town of Miami Lakes and its Cultural Affairs Committee, was proud to host a luncheon in honor of Women’s History Month. Mrs. Mary Collins, a resident of Miami Lakes, was the luncheon’s keynote speaker. The luncheon took place on Saturday, March 3rd at the Robert Alonso Community Center, located at 16500 NW 87th Ave.

Mary Collins, born July 5, 1932 in New York City, graduated from Stella Maris Academy and attended Dade Community College, and married in 1965 Major John Collins USMC. Living in Regatta-Pointe, she is a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. From 1984 to 1992, she served as the Vice-Chair of the Dade County Republican Executive Committee under former Florida Governor, Jeb Bush. In 2001, Mary Collins was elected to the Town of Miami Lakes Town Council and helped launch citizen committees for Cultural Affairs, Youth Activities, Economic Development, Beautifications, Elderly Affairs, and Education.

In addition to commemorating our keynote speaker, the Town extend the opportunity to the community to nominate women of distinction who either live or work in Miami Lakes.
The award recipients are the following:

•Arts: Ginette Lilo, Adult Painting Class Instructor
•Business: Haydee Sera, Miami Lakes Bar Association
•Community and Civic Affairs: Magaly Rubio, Miami Lakes Chamber & Zonta Club
•Education: Dr. Dionne Stephens, Florida International University
•Government: Officer Rose Viera, Town of Miami Lakes
•Health Services: Giannie Castellanos De Cardenas, Infinite Vision Eyecare
•Humanitarian: Daylin Garcia, Giving Gators
•Volunteer: Felicia Salazar, Cultural Affairs & Neighborhood Improvement Committees
