Community Members Recognized at June 2018 Council Meeting

 
Miami Lakes, FL –On June 5, 2018 during the regular council meeting, Mayor Manny Cid and Town Council honored the following Miami Lakes’ community members for their accomplishments and community support.

JUNE 11, 2018 PRINCIPAL MR. JOAQUIN P. HERNANDEZ DAY

Mayor Manny Cid and Council Members recognized Principal of Barbara Goleman Senior High School in Miami Lakes Joaquin P. Hernandez for his exemplary service of dedicated 28 years at Miami-Dade Public Schools, including years 20 years of service in various schools in the Town of Miami Lakes. July 11, 2018, which is the last day of Principal Hernandez at Miami Dade Public Schools was announced to be Principal Joaquin Hernandez Day in the Town of Miami Lakes.

MAYOR FOR THE DAY PROGRAM RECIPIENTS

Mayor Manny Cid and Town Council recognized students Mia Concepcion from Miami Lakes K8, Luis Armas from Miami Lakes Education Center, Melissa Cruz from Hialeah Miami Lakes High School, Annalyse Dibenedetto from Bob Graham Education Center, Jasmine Barrientos from Miami Lakes Middle School and Orlando Paz from Barbara Goleman High School as recipients for the Mayor for the Day. Mayor’s Office reached out to the Miami Dade School District to contact all schools in Miami Lakes and recommend names of students who are interested in the program. The criteria to be chosen was their interest in civic and community engagement.

MAY 28, 2018 PURPLE HEART DAY

Councilman Tim Daubert on behalf of the Town Council recognized Purple Heart medal recipients in the Town of Miami Lakes. Town of Miami Lakes was proclaimed to be one of the three communities in Miami-Dade County to be a Purple Heart Community. The Purple Heart was initially created as a badge of military merit by General George Washington in 1972. It is the first American service award or declaration for the American soldiers who were wounded or paid the ultimate sacrifice in combat with the enemy of the United States of America. Its mission is to foster an environment of Goodwill among the wounded combat veteran members and their families, promote patriotism, and honor their sacrifice. To honor the veterans and Purple Heart recipients, May 28, 2018 was proclaimed to be the Purple Heart Day in the Town of Miami Lakes. Councilman Tim Daubert also announced that there will be dedicated parking at all locations in the Town for Purple Heart recipients.

JUNE 5, 2018 PROCLAMATION TO OFFICER ROSE VIERA MIAMI DADE POLICE DEMARTMENT

Officer Rose Viera from Miami Dade Police Department in Miami Lakes, who has been servicing the Miami Lakes community since its incorporation in the year 2000, was awarded a proclamation by Mayor Manny Cid and Town Council for her hard work and dedication to the community. Officer Viera will be retiring from the Miami Dade Police Department in July 2018. She began her employment with Miami Dade Police Department on June 25, 1997. Mayor Manny Cid on behalf of the Town Council and residents proclaimed June 5, 2018 as Officer Rose Viera Day in the Town of Miami Lakes.
