 Town Receives $225,000 Grant for Royal Oaks Park
 
Miami Lakes, FL – As part of the Strategic Plan Objective to achieve universal environmental sustainability, the Town of Miami Lakes submitted a proposal to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Small Community Energy Efficient Lighting Grant Program to assist in funding the Royal Oaks Park Energy Efficient Sports Fields Lighting Project in Royal Oaks Park. 

According to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services applicant submissions, twenty-three (23) hopefuls throughout the state of Florida submitted approximately $3 million in grant requests. The total funding available for the Program is $1 million, thus making this opportunity extremely competitive. On June 4, 2018, the Town of Miami Lakes received an award notification for full funding in the amount of $225,000 for the project.


WHAT IS THE ROYAL OAKS PARK ENERGY EFFICIENT SPORTS FIELDS LIGHTING PROJECT:
The purpose of the Royal Oaks Park Energy Efficient Sports Fields Lighting Project is to increase energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption. Currently, this park provides metal-halide outdoor sports fields lighting. The project will incorporate the purchase and install of LED energy efficient lighting for two of the extensively utilized sports fields, thereby replacing the metal-halide existing fixtures with outdoor LED sports lighting fixtures.


BENEFITS OF THE PROJECT:
• The Royal Oaks Park Energy Efficient Sports Fields Lighting Project aligns with the U.S. Department of Energy (USDOE) Market Transformation National Goal to implement strategic interventions which yield lasting changes in the structure or function of a market or the behavior of market participants, resulting in an increase in adoption of energy efficiency and renewable energy products, services and practices

• In addition, this project aligns with the USDOE State Energy Program (SEP) Strategic Plan Goal to increase energy efficiency which results in reduced energy costs and consumption for consumers, businesses and government. 

• The project will reduce total energy use, reduce power operating costs, and increase energy efficiency at Royal Oaks Park.

ABOUT ROYAL OAKS PARK:
Royal Oaks Park, located at 16500 NW 87th Avenue in Miami Lakes, is open to the public from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, 365-days a year, including weekends and holidays. It is a 22-acre community park is heavily used year-round and easily accessible to the public. Royal Oaks Park provides athletic fields for soccer and football, as well as, a half basketball court, pavilions, fitness stations, playground, outdoor domino tables, picnic areas, and an indoor community center for special events, educational programs, and private parties. Royal Oaks Park is an essential recreational facility for the Miami Lakes population, serving athletes, sports teams, recreational clubs, and the general public.
