Community Members Recognized at July 2018 Council Meeting
Miami Lakes, FL – On July 17, 2018 during the regular council meeting, Mayor Manny Cid and Town Council honored the following Miami Lakes’ community members for their accomplishments and community support.

Mayor Manny Cid and Council Members presented a proclamation for Gastroschisis Awareness Day to the Delgado Family. Recently, this embarked on one of the hardest trials of their life. During Allison Delgado pregnancy, her daughter, Luna Mia Delgado, was diagnosed with Gastroschisis. Gastroschisis is a birth defect that allows intestines and sometimes other organs, to protrude from the abdomen. One in every 2,000 babies are born with gastroschisis every year in the US. Cases have risen dramatically over the past 10 years. Mayor Cid and Council members commended Allison and her husband for contacting Governor Rick Scott requesting that Gastroschisis Awareness Day be recognized in Florida and their fundraising efforts to bring awareness about the disease.

Dr. Araceli Yapor, a member of the Veterans Committee, in February of 2018 visited the Japanese city of Hiroshima for the commemorative memorial of 75th anniversary of the final battle of World War II. An American Flag was raised in honor for all the lives that were lost and Dr. Yapor came back to present this flag to the Town of Miami Lakes, so it may hang in Town Hall and the battle never be forgotten.
