Miami Lakes Commends Local Heroes on Public Safety Appreciation Day

Miami Lakes, FL - The Town of Miami Lakes and its Public Safety Committee and Town Councilmembers recognized the brave and exceptional service of our local police officers, firefighters and public safety officials at the annual Public Safety Appreciation event. The event sponsored by The Graham Companies and local restaurant Salata Kitchen. The event was catered by Exquisite Catering. The Invocation was done by Deacon Juan Gonzalez of Our Lady of the Lakes Church.

Salata Kitchen provided generous gift certificates and discount cards. Other surprise raffle prizes were donated by the Public Safety Committee Chair Nancy Rogers, and the Miami Lakes Food & Wine Festival Coordinator, Lynn Matos, donated General and VIP tickets to the 2020 Food and Wine Festival for the raffle.

Miami Dade County Fire Chief Garcia presented the Firefighter of the Year Award to Firefighter Tony Ibanez, for his dedication to providing outstanding fire and emergency services.

Town of Miami Lakes Police Major Javier Ruiz presented Police Officer of the Year Award to Lieutenant Jose Gonzalez for his exceptional valor in service and upholding traditions of law enforcement.

In addition, a Proclamation from the Mayor’s Office was given to the family of the late Kevin Morejon. Kevin was a dedicated and missed member of the Public Safety Committee and Youth Activities Task Force. The proclamation declared May 18, 2019, Kevin Morejon Day.

While this annual event takes place in conjunction with National Police Appreciation week and International Firefighter’s Day, it is the outstanding dedication and initiative of these brave men and women year-round which has helped to make the Town of Miami Lakes one of the safest communities in the state year after year.
