Miami Lakes, FL – The Town of Miami Lakes and its Cultural Affairs Committee will be hosting a celebration to honor and remember the importance of African American Culture in our society on February 22nd at 6:00 p.m. at Town Hall. The event will showcase African-American artwork, food and live music by Motown Review.

Black History Month is an annual observance originating in the United States, also known as African-American History Month. It occurs during the month of February, the birth months of Abraham Lincoln, who issued the Emancipation Proclamation, and Frederick Douglass, an African American abolitionist and author. The observation originated with the work of historian Carter G. Woodson who pioneered African American studies. In 1976, President Gerald Ford began the observation of National African American History Month.
