Class of 2020 graduating high school seniors may not walk on stage to receive their diploma this year, but that does not mean that we can not celebrate them in other ways.
The Miami Lakes Town Council approved the Class of 2020 High School Graduation Banner project at a recent special call meeting, where Councilman Luis Collazo sponsored and explained the project.
In the memo to council, Collazo said "Over the last few weeks many of us have had a dramatic change to our daily lives due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As many of us struggle to adjust to our “new normal”, it is important to not lose sight of life’s milestones and celebrate them, albeit in a different way."
The Town's Education Advisory Board is spearheading the project which will adorn Miami Lakes Drive with banners hung on the light posts for a period of 3 months.
The Class of 2020 High School Graduation Banner (24" W x 48" H), open to all Miami Lakes residents, will include the student's graduation picture, full name, and school. The cost of the High School Graduation Banner is $105/banner. The deadline is June 7, 2020 to submit the form, photo, and payments. At the end of the campaign the student may pick up their banner for them to keep and cherish.
