Miami Lakes, FL -The Town of Miami Lakes continues to be recognized for its abundant, beautiful tree canopy and exceptional tree management practices was once again awarded both the Tree City USA Certification and Growth Award designation for this past year.
This is the 8th consecutive year the Town has received the Tree City USA designation and the 6th consecutive year the Town has received the Growth Award. These designations are awarded to cities/towns for their excellence in urban forestry management.
"The beautiful tree canopies in Miami Lakes have long been the signature of the Town,” Mayor Wayne Slaton said. “The canopies contribute significantly to the environment, the economy, and the overall well-being of the residents. I am proud of the efforts made by staff to maintain this designation for 8 years in a row.”
The Tree City USA designation is provided by The Arbor Day Foundation, in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service, to recognize environmental improvement and encourage higher levels of tree care throughout America. This award is designed not only to recognize achievement, but also to communicate new ideas and help the leaders of all Tree City USAs plan for improving community tree care.
The Tree City USA Growth Award is given to communities that go beyond the standards of Tree City USA and demonstrate improvement and growth of local tree care. Being a Tree City USA helps present the kind of image that most citizens want to have for the place they live or conduct business.
The Town has recently completed a comprehensive Tree Management Plan, which establishes an organized, proactive tree maintenance program to ensure Miami Lakes continues "Growing Beautifully."
