Miami Lakes, FL - At the May Council Meeting, several community members were recognized for their accomplishments and community support.

Mr. Roberto Alonso was recognized for his commitment to the Town of Miami Lakes, as part of the Charter Revision Commission charged with the task of carefully reviewing the Town Charter, outlining respective findings, and making recommendations to amend accordingly.

Town of Miami Lakes resident Mr. Juan Espejo was acknowledged for placing second in the County’s Great Park Summit Photo Competition. Mr. Espejo was the 1st place winner in the Town’s website photo competition “Capture a Miami Lakes Moment”.

Several students and educators were also recognized for their various accomplishments:

- Ms. Jaquesta Adams a senior at Hialeah Miami Lakes Senior High and Ms. Stephanie Brito a senior at Miami Lakes Educational Center were recognized for their accomplishments as recipients of a Gates Millenium Scholarship.

- Monsignor Edward Pace High School Thespian Drama Club led by Ms. Cristina Pla-Guzman was recognized for their hard work and achievements in Troupe 5457, receiving outstanding rankings in competitions this year.

- Sebastian Salas, a senior at Miami Lakes Educational Center whom is also the youngest person to ever earn expert-level certification on Solid Works, a mechanical engineering design program was recognized for his hard work in the field of engineering creating Wunderthought, a 3D printing/prototype company.

- Alexandra Reboredo, Daylin Delgado and Veronica Rarick were commended for their recent documentary titled Immigration’s Road to the White House which received an “Honorable Mention” from C-SPAN’s StudentCam 2016 Competition.

A proclamation was given to Dr. Manuel Sanchez III of Miami Lakes Middle School, who was named Miami Dade Public Schools Principal of the Year. Dr. Sanchez represents the North Region Principal of the Year and he is the third Principal of the Year from the Miami Lakes area.

“Our town is lucky to have such wonderful students and educators. These individuals have achieved success through their accomplishments—from making a documentary, being named Principal of the Year, and creating a 3D prototyping/ engineering company. I am honored to recognize their extraordinary talent in our own backyard”, said Councilman Cid.
