Town of Miami Lakes Awarded $5,000 Grant for iSenior
Miami Lakes, FL - The Florida Department of Elder Affairs awarded the Town of Miami Lakes a $5000 Community for a Lifetime Support Projects for Elders Grant. The Grant will fund the iSenior program, a free intergenerational technology education course for seniors in the community. The iSenior program will enhance the already popular computer classes by promoting free access to tablets for lifelong learning.
"We want to protect the quality of life and ensure our seniors age in place happily, with this program participants will learn a new skill in a technology driven age," said Mayor Michael Pizzi.
The Town of Miami Lakes will provide bilingual technology education classes to senior citizens age 60 and over for a total of 10 weeks. The classes will be held twice a week for two hours each day. The classes will focus on incorporating the new tablet technology, learning to use the internet safely, share photos and create albums, write letters and emails, read articles, and play cognitive and memory games.
The program includes an Intergenerational Summer Project for high school students. For more information on signing up for the iSenior program please contact Katya Lysak at 305.698.9308 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
