Minimum Lake Maintenance Standards Approved

Minimum Lake Maintenance Standards Approved

June 26, 2025

Miami Lakes, FL – The Town of Miami Lakes has officially adopted Minimum Lake Maintenance Standards through a formal amendment to its existing agreement with Solitude Lake Management, the contracted vendor responsible for maintaining the Town’s two lake districts: Lake Hilda and Lake Patricia. This decision underscores the Town’s commitment to preserving the environmental health and aesthetic value of the community’s lakes.

The new standards, based on the Town’s current level of service, establish consistent and enforceable guidelines for maintaining lake health, water quality, and shoreline aesthetics. The contract amendment, executed on April 10, 2025, ensures continued protection and care for Lake Hilda and Lake Patricia.

Key components of the new standards include:

  • Monthly service visits to both lakes
  • Algae and invasive plant control
  • Litter and debris removal
  • Shoreline vegetation management
  • Quarterly water quality testing
  • Detailed reporting with photos and site observations

While these standards now serve as the formal level of service for Town-maintained lakes, they are also intended to provide a recommended framework for communities and homeowners’ associations (HOAs) throughout Miami Lakes. The adoption does not impose any new requirement on privately maintained lakes or HOAs but instead offers a voluntary benchmark that local communities may consider implementing to enhance water quality and consistency across the Town.
The initiative follows a Town Council discussion in October 2024, when Mayor Joshua Dieguez emphasized the need for a formal framework to ensure consistent service delivery, particularly in communities without active homeowners’ associations.
