Town of Miami Lakes Implements Credit Card Processing Fee Policy
Town of Miami Lakes Implements Credit Card Processing Fee Policy
March 11, 2026
Miami Lakes, FL – The Town of Miami Lakes has adopted a new policy regarding credit and debit card payments for municipal services following the approval of Resolution No. 26-2158 by the Town Council on January 20, 2026.
Beginning April 1, 2026, customers who choose to pay for Town services using a credit or debit card will be responsible for the applicable transaction processing fee charged by the Town’s third-party payment processor.
The Town accepts electronic payments for a variety of services including building and planning permits, licenses, code enforcement fines, park facility rentals, and other municipal services. Previously, these processing costs were absorbed by the Town. The newly adopted policy allows the Town to pass through the actual transaction fee to the customer electing to use a credit or debit card.
Processing fees vary depending on the payment platform and service type. The exact fee will be displayed to customers at the time of the transaction on the applicable payment platform. For example, payments made through systems such as permit processing or facility rental platforms will display the corresponding transaction fee before payment is completed.
Payments made by check, money order, or cashier’s check will not be subject to processing fees.
The implementation of this policy is expected to reduce the Town’s annual processing fee expenses, which have historically totaled approximately $50,000 per year.
