Town of Miami Lakes Advances Plans for Veterans Memorial at Veterans Park

September 14, 2026

Miami Lakes, FL – The Town of Miami Lakes, in partnership with its Veterans Committee and local veterans organizations, is advancing plans for a new Veterans Memorial at Veterans Park, creating a lasting tribute to the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

The proposed memorial will be located at Veterans Park, 15151 NW 82 Avenue, and is envisioned as a dedicated space where residents, veterans and their families can gather for reflection, remembrance and community ceremonies. Current plans call for a memorial featuring an engraved honor wall recognizing veterans and branches of the U.S. military, along with landscaping, lighting and an area designed to accommodate commemorative gatherings.

The project originated through the Town’s Veterans Committee, whose members have worked to develop a concept that honors the community’s veterans while complementing the character of Veterans Park. Architect Julio Brea developed renderings for the proposed memorial.

The Town has already committed $36,368 toward the design of the Veterans Memorial, funding that originated through the Veterans Committee and its fundraising efforts.

As the project has progressed and its scope has been further developed, the overall project cost is currently estimated at approximately $400,000. The Town Council has included the Veterans Honor Wall as a federal legislative priority, seeking funding for design, construction and construction engineering and inspection services. The Veterans Committee has also discussed pursuing $250,000 in state legislative funding, along with potential Miami-Dade County assistance and private fundraising.

The multi-source funding strategy is intended to leverage state, federal, county and private contributions to help bring the memorial to fruition while minimizing the financial impact on Miami Lakes taxpayers.

American Legion Post 144 Miami Lakes is also supporting the effort through a community fundraising campaign. Contributions will help support the design, construction and dedication of the memorial. The fundraising initiative also provides opportunities for individuals, businesses and organizations to support the project.

Once completed, the Veterans Memorial is expected to provide a permanent setting for ceremonies such as Veterans Day and Memorial Day, while offering residents and visitors a place throughout the year to pause, reflect and recognize the service of America’s veterans.

The project builds upon Miami Lakes’ longstanding commitment to honoring members of the Armed Forces through initiatives led by the Town and its Veterans Committee, including the Military Tribute Banner Program, annual commemorative events and other veteran recognition efforts.
