Town Launches Enhanced Trees & Landscaping Webpage to Help Residents Navigate Tree Care, Permits and Services

October 7, 2026

Miami Lakes, FL – The Town of Miami Lakes has launched an enhanced Trees & Landscaping webpage designed to make it easier for residents to understand tree ownership, proper tree-care practices, permitting requirements, Town trimming programs, and available resources.

Miami Lakes’ tree canopy is one of the defining features of the community, providing shade, beauty, environmental benefits, and neighborhood character. The updated webpage brings important tree-related information together in one centralized location, helping residents better understand their responsibilities and the Town services available to them.

The webpage includes guidance on determining whether a tree is located on private property or within a Town swale or right-of-way, along with information on routine pruning, root pruning, trees near power lines, and responsibilities associated with privately owned and Town-maintained trees.

Residents can also access practical information on hiring a qualified tree-care professional, including the Town’s Before You Hire a Tree Trimmer Checklist and the Voluntary Tree Trimming Vendor Registry. The page also features a proper pruning guide explaining accepted tree-care practices and identifying potentially damaging techniques such as topping, excessive canopy reduction, hat-racking, stub cuts, and flush cuts.

Additional resources include:

  • Tree permit requirements and application information
  • Town right-of-way tree trimming cycles
  • Resi-Pay Tree Trimming Program information
  • Voluntary Tree Trimming Vendor Registry
  • Before You Hire a Tree Trimmer Checklist
  • Tree Ordinance information
  • Guidance for trees near power lines
  • Frequently asked questions about Town-owned and private-property trees

The page also provides details about the Town’s Resi-Pay Tree Trimming Program, which allows residents to request eligible Town-owned trees near their homes be trimmed by a Town-approved vendor before the next scheduled maintenance cycle at the resident’s expense. Safety-related tree concerns continue to be evaluated separately and can be reported through the Town’s mobile app under the “Tree Issues” category.

The Town encourages residents to review the webpage before trimming, removing, root pruning, or hiring a contractor to perform tree work. Understanding who owns the tree and what requirements apply can help protect Miami Lakes’ tree canopy while avoiding improper tree work or potential Code Compliance issues.
