police services (miami-dade sheriff’s office)

The Town of Miami Lakes contracts with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) to provide comprehensive law enforcement services to the community. Through this partnership, residents receive professional, responsive, and community-focused policing that supports the Town’s commitment to public safety and quality of life.

As of January 2025, Miami-Dade County transitioned from the Miami-Dade Police Department to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, now led by an independently elected Sheriff. While the structure of the agency has evolved, the level of service, personnel, and dedication to the Miami Lakes community remain consistent.

about the miami-dade sheriff’s office transition

In 2024, Miami-Dade County voters elected the County’s first Sheriff in over 60 years, restoring the Office of the Sheriff as a constitutional office. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office now oversees countywide law enforcement services, including those provided to municipalities such as Miami Lakes.

This transition enhances accountability by making the Sheriff directly elected by voters, while maintaining continuity in service delivery. Residents should not experience disruptions in service, though agency branding and terminology may continue to evolve.
