Town Announces Selection of New Major for Miami-Dade Police Department District

Miami Lakes, FL – The Town of Miami Lakes is proud to announce the selection of the newest Miami-Dade Police Major for the Miami Lakes District, Jose Gonzalez, who previously served as Lieutenant for the for the Town’s Police Department.

The selection of new leadership followed the transfer of Major Javier Ruiz, who served as Town Commander since 2017, to the Robbery Bureau for the Miami-Dade Police Department. After receiving and reviewing 22 resumes of candidates for the position of Major of the Miami-Dade Police Department District for the Town of Miami Lakes, Town Manager Edward Pidermann informed the county of his intent to appoint Major Gonzalez on Wednesday, June 14.

In his official recommendation, Pidermann stated that “[Gonzalez’s] education and experience prove that he is ready to take command of the proud men & women that keep the residents of our Town safe.” With nearly 30 years of experience with the Miami-Dade Police Department, and 5 with the Town of Miami Lakes, Gonzalez is noted to be “well versed in the expectations of our residents and is ready to lead our district”, says Pidermann. Effective Monday, June 26, 2023, Gonzalez will officially assume his new rank as Major.

At the July Regular Town Council meeting, a pinning ceremony will be held for Major Gonzalez, celebrating this occasion and new challenge.
