Community Members Recognized at May 2018 Council Meeting

 
Miami Lakes, FL – On May 1, 2018 during the regular council meeting, Mayor Manny Cid and Town Council honored the following Miami Lakes’ community members for their accomplishments and community support.

CHARITY BASKETBALL SPONSORS RECOGNITION

Mayor Manny Cid and Council Members recognized Meyling Montelongo & Robert Dominguez from NuWorld Title, William Ledesma & Marcos Cabral from PRMG Mortgage Group, Mara Falero & Dora Rivery from Jetstream Federal Credit Union of Miami Lakes, Ernesto & Sonia Aguila from Café La Rica, and Jorge Calzadilla from One Payment for their contribution as sponsors of the Mayor’s Classic Charity Basketball Game that was held in the City of Doral on April 5, 2018.

The Town of Miami Lakes Basketball Team was also recognized for their sportsmanship and contribution to the game. Team members included Coach Tim Reynolds, players Commissioner Bovo, Town Manager Alex Rey, Town Attorney Raul Gastesi, Jeremy Bajdaun, Joseph Sosa, Danny Angel, Chief of Operations Tony Lopez, Daniel Waite, Brian Gascoigne, Assistant Town Attorney Lorenzo Cobiella, and Stefano Viola.

Councilwoman Marilyn Ruano and the board members of the Special Needs Advisory Board, Roxanna Rodriguez, Jessica Torre, Luis Marquez, Marianela Alvarez, Dr. Michael Alessandri, and Oscar Amuz received the check for $3,789 from the proceeds of the game.

RECOGNITION FOR FUTURE LEADERS SPONSORSHIP WINNERS

Stuart Wylie, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Graham Companies together with the Town’s Education Advisory Board presented the Future Leaders Scholarship to the winners, Valeria Donoso a student at Barbara Goleman High School attending University of Florida in the Fall and Kasandra Rodriguez a student at Barbara Goleman High School attending Davidson College in the Fall.

The winners won $1000 each from The Graham Companies for submitting an essay on how they aspire to make the world a better place. The students demonstrated academic achievement and extraordinary commitment to their school and their community.

MAIN STREET BANNER ART CONTEST

Councilman Luis Collazo recognized the winners of “There’s No Place Like Miami Lakes” Main Street Banner Art Contest. The top Elementary School submission was from Bob Graham Education Center student Maximo Rodriguez who was recognized at the April Town Council meeting. Maximo donated his winning piece to the Town Council and is on display on the second floor of Town Hall.

Among the others recognized were Jade Morejon, Delilah Caceres, Nicholas Valido, Christian Aguilar, Maximo Rodriguez, Gillian Baltar, Leyla Cobiella, Diana Bigott, Ellis Gonzalez, Emelie Rojas, Pablo Cardona, Emily Catalano, Xinhe Lu, Alana Alvarez, Jayke Lorenzo, Estrella Guzman, Fabio Rivas, Isabella Toledo, Jordan Wells, Joseph Rivera, Briana Bouza, Mia Wolff, Abriana Gangi, Sophia Nunez, Caitlyn Ramirez, and Angelo Valle.
