“It's wonderful that the Graham Companies continue to support the Key to the Town Scholarship,” Councilman Nelson Rodriguez said. “Two young residents will receive some well needed financial help for college.”
Interested seniors must submit a typed essay (750 words maximum) explaining in his/her own words why they should be selected as a recipient of the Key to the Town Scholarship. The student must demonstrate academic achievement and community service commitment, identify future goals, and include a personal obstacle he/she overcame.
A cover sheet must accompany the essay and must contain the following information: The applicant’s name, address, telephone number, name of the High School, community service and extracurricular activities, the college or university the applicant will be attending (if available), and other leadership activities. The cover sheet can be found on the Town’s website. An official sealed high school transcript and three letters of recommendation from non-relatives, one of which must be from a teacher or school official, must also accompany the essay. The entire package must be submitted to Clarisell De Cardenas, Special Events & Committees Coordinator, at 6601 Main Street, Miami Lakes, FL 33014 no later than May 30, 2014.
All applications will be forwarded to the Education Advisory Board for their selection of two recipients. The Mayor, Town Council and a representative from The Graham Companies will present the winners with the check at the Town Council Meeting on June 10, 2014.
Should you have any questions, contact Clarisell De Cardenas, Special Events & Committees Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or (305) 364-6100 ext 1132.
