Mayor Pizzi Helps Celebrate 21st Anniversary of Merit Badge College
Miami Lakes, FL - On Saturday, March 16, Mayor Michael Pizzi presented a check in the amount on $1,000 to the South Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America Merit Badge College. About 2,000 scouts and leaders attended the event which was held at Barbara Goleman Senior High School. This year marks the 21st Anniversary of the Merit Badge College Event. Scouts from all over south Florida camp-out all weekend on the school field, attending courses during the day that allow the Scouts to complete early rank requirements and earn merit badges. Over 70 Badges are offered, ranging from computer training and public speaking courses to astronomy and leather work.
“It is important to develop valuable life skills in young boys,” said Mayor Pizzi, “The Boy Scouts instill the value of setting goals while building confidence and self-esteem and exposing them to various professions”.
