The Town of Miami Lakes incorporated in December of 2000 and has contracted the services of the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) for law enforcement since its inception. The MDPD provides uniformed patrol services that include high visibility patrol and responding to calls for service by the town residents. We have a Neighborhood Resources Unit (NRU) which includes motorcycle officers, bike officers, and a community service officer. In addition to traffic enforcement and high visibility patrol, the NRU provides traffic control for the drop-off and dismissal of students at 5 local area schools to include Barbara Goleman Senior High School, Miami Lakes Middle School, Miami Lakes K-8, Bob Graham Education Center, and the Primary Learning Center. Additionally, we provide investigative follow-up support through our General Investigations Unit (GIU). The GIU investigates residential and commercial burglaries, vehicle burglaries, auto thefts, assaults, and thefts to name a few. The Neighborhood Traffic Unit (NTU) is a component of the GIU that addresses afternoon & evening traffic concerns, as well as assisting GIU detectives with follow up investigations.

The Miami-Dade Police Department supports the Town of Miami Lakes by providing specialized services such as the Special Response Team, K-9, Bomb Disposal Unit, Divers, Forensic Services Bureau (Crime Scene & Crime Laboratory), Homicide Bureau, Robbery Bureau, Special Victims Bureau (Domestic Crimes Section and Sexual Crimes Section), Economic Crimes Bureau (Credit Card Section, Mortgage Fraud Task Force, Fraud Sections, and Identity Theft), Narcotics Bureau (Long-Term Narcotic Investigations to include grow houses) and the Sherriff Services Bureau (Court Services Section and Warrants Section).
