Miami Lakes, FL - The Public Safety Committee of Miami Lakes invites you to come out to learn how to prevent crime during the holidays and throughout the year on Wednesday, November 18th at 7pm at Town Hall Council Chambers. Sergeant Joseph Bermudez, Community and Youth Outreach Officer with the Miami-Dade Police Department, will be conducting a crime prevention presentation, where he will provide informative lectures on crime reduction techniques. Sergeant Bermudez will be providing residential security recommendations, strategies, and methods to reduce burglary occurrences including the proper use of landscaping, the importance of lighting, proper locking mechanisms on doors and windows, and the basic principles of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED).
Sergeant Bermudez will also speak on tips such as carrying only necessary credit cards; shredding documents; and being aware of “phishing” scams.
Sergeant Joseph Bermudez has been in Law Enforcement with Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) for over 23 Years. Prior to Law Enforcement, Sergeant Bermudez was a member of the U.S. Army, serving as a Counter-Intelligence Agent, in the Military Intelligence Corps. For the past 14 years, Sergeant Bermudez has been involved in Community Policing and Crime Prevention. He is a certified Florida Crime Prevention Practitioner, Florida CPTED Practitioner, and currently supervises and coordinates MDPD’s Community & Youth Outreach Programs.
