Miami Lakes, FL - The Town of Miami Lakes would like to thank our sponsors and the more than 60 local businesses that participated in the Town’s first ever Community Bike Ride and Fit Fair on Saturday, March 19th. Mayor Michael Pizzi joined Miami Lakes residents on the inaugural bike ride held to showcase portions of the Town’s greenways and trails master plan, and provide participants with information on how to use alternative modes of transportation. “As we build out our greenways and encourage alternative forms of transportation, and in conjunction with Miami-Dade County initiatives, I support any efforts, including cycling, to lower traffic congestion in the Town of Miami Lakes” said Mayor Pizzi.
This summer, the Town will begin implementation of a greenway trail and safe route to school from the Miami Lakes K-8 Center to the Miami Lakes Middle School. The total linear distance of the proposed Miami Lakeway Trail is approximately 1.5 miles long. The project is part of the Town’s adopted Greenways and Trails Master Plan which can be viewed by visiting www.miamilakes-fl.gov/trails
The Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program strives to provide alternative modes of transportation that are safe for children, which in turn encourages walking and bicycling to school. SRTS promotes healthy habits by providing an opportunity for children to engage in much needed physical activity before and after school each day.
