Miami Lakes, FL - The Town of Miami Lakes recently received a grant from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to supplement the Town’s police department budget for the school resource officer project. The (FDLE) Justice Assistance Grant will allow the department to conduct additional Crime Prevention Presentations at local schools and provide additional resources to patrol neighborhoods around schools in an effort to deter loitering during and after school hours
The Project strives to address specific truant behaviors and provide education to students on the dangers of negative decisions, and increase the probability of students becoming positive role models in their schools and community.
“This funding will enable the Town police to partner with our schools in making sure that none of our children are walking the streets and putting themselves at risk during school hours. Truancy and not going to school are a leading causes of our kids getting into trouble and developing bad habits,” said Mayor Michael Pizzi. “This funding will enhance the ability of our police to protect our children by encouraging attendance at school.”
